How Custom Orders Work

Custom ordering, made clear

Most products and projects from Wild Islay Studio are made specifically for the customer ordering them.

Here is what to expect from your initial enquiry through to collection or delivery.

Step 1: Send your enquiry

Tell me what you would like created and provide as much useful information as possible.

Please include:

  • Product or project type
  • Size and quantity
  • Required date
  • Wording or personalisation
  • Preferred colours or style
  • Photographs or artwork
  • Any reference images

If important information is missing, I may need to ask further questions before confirming whether the project is possible.

Step 2: Project assessment

I will review your request and consider:

  • Whether I can produce it to a suitable standard
  • The materials and equipment required
  • The quality of supplied artwork
  • The time needed for design and production
  • My current workload
  • Whether your required date is achievable

Submitting an enquiry does not guarantee that a project will be accepted.

I may decline work if the timescale is unrealistic, the supplied files are unsuitable, the requested method is unavailable or I do not believe I can deliver the standard required.

Step 3: Price and design fee

For straightforward personalised products, I will confirm the price before you pay.

Larger bespoke projects may require a £30 consultation and design fee before detailed artwork assessment, sourcing, mock-ups or original design work begins.

If the project proceeds, the £30 fee is deducted from the final invoice.

Step 4: Payment

Personalised products and general orders must be paid for before design or production begins.

Larger projects may require:

  • Full payment in advance; or
  • A deposit followed by the remaining balance before completion

The payment arrangement will be confirmed before work starts.

Step 5: Artwork and approval

Where approval is required, you will receive a digital proof or mock-up.

You must carefully check:

  • Spelling
  • Names
  • Dates
  • Contact details
  • Colours
  • Sizes
  • Layout
  • Quantities

Production will begin after approval. Changes requested after approval may result in additional costs and delays.

Minor colour differences can occur between screens and printed products.

Step 6: Production

Once payment and any artwork approval are complete, your order enters production.

Timescales vary according to:

  • Product type
  • Order quantity
  • Material availability
  • Design requirements
  • Current workload
  • Equipment and production processes

Please do not assume an order is ready until I have contacted you.

Step 7: Collection or delivery

I will let you know when your order is complete.

Collection will be arranged from Wild Islay Studio in Bowmore. Delivery or postage may be available depending on the product and destination.

Need something for a specific date?

Enquire as early as possible. Short-notice work cannot always be accommodated, particularly when original design, specialist materials or larger quantities are required.
