Frequently Asked Questions

Questions, answered clearly

Below are answers to common questions about ordering, visiting the studio and supplying artwork.

How do I place an order?

For products available online, follow the ordering instructions on the product page.

For custom work, use the enquiry form and provide the product, size, quantity, required date and personalisation details.

Submitting an enquiry does not guarantee acceptance or reserve production time.

Do I need to pay before you start?

Yes. Personalised products and general orders must normally be paid for before design or production begins.

Larger projects may require full payment or an agreed deposit before work starts.

How long will my order take?

Timescales depend on:

  • Product type
  • Quantity
  • Current workload
  • Material availability
  • Artwork quality
  • Design requirements
  • Required production method

Please enquire early if your order is needed for a fixed date.

Can you complete urgent orders?

Sometimes, but availability cannot be guaranteed.

Urgent work depends on the existing workload, materials and whether the files supplied are ready for production.

An urgent request may be declined if completing it would affect quality or existing customer orders.

Do you provide a proof?

A digital proof may be provided when appropriate.

You are responsible for checking names, spelling, dates, contact information, layout and quantities before approving the design.

Production begins after approval.

What artwork files should I provide?

Original, high-quality files are always best.

Preferred formats include:

  • Vector PDF
  • SVG
  • EPS
  • High-resolution PNG
  • High-resolution JPEG for photographs

Screenshots and images downloaded from social media may not be suitable for professional printing.

Can you improve or recreate my logo?

This depends on the quality and complexity of the supplied file.

Simple preparation may be included in a quotation. Rebuilding, tracing or correcting artwork may incur an additional design charge.

What is the £30 consultation fee?

The fee may apply to larger bespoke projects requiring artwork assessment, technical advice, research, mock-ups or original design work.

If the project proceeds, the fee is deducted from the final invoice.

It does not normally apply to straightforward personalised gifts.

Can you refuse a project?

Yes.

I may decline work if:

  • The timescale is unrealistic
  • Supplied artwork is unsuitable
  • The required method is unavailable
  • Materials cannot be sourced
  • The project falls outside the studio’s services
  • I cannot confidently achieve a suitable result

Is the studio a shop?

No. Wild Islay Studio is a working design and production studio.

There may be product examples available to view, but most work is made to order.

When is the studio open?

Public opening times are advertised weekly.

Visits outside those times are available by prior appointment.

Please check the latest update before making a special journey.

Can I collect my order?

Yes. Collection can be arranged from the studio in Bowmore after you have received confirmation that your order is ready.

Do you post orders?

Postage may be available for suitable products.

Charges depend on the item’s size, weight, value and destination. Some large, fragile or installation-based work may only be available for collection or local arrangement.

Can personalised products be returned?

Personalised products cannot normally be returned because you have changed your mind.

Please contact the studio promptly if an item is faulty, damaged or materially different from the approved order.

This does not affect your statutory rights.

Will printed colours match my screen exactly?

Not always.

Screens produce colour using light, while printers use physical inks. Screen brightness, material, finish and print method can all affect the appearance of colour.

Reasonable colour variation is normal.

Can you copy another designer’s work?

No.

Reference images can be used to explain a general style or idea, but I will not directly reproduce another designer’s protected work without permission.
